Ripple Hinge: A Platform for Human Body Interfaces

Installation by MSHR at GASBON METABOLISM, Yamanashi, Japan, 2023
With support from the Oregon Arts Commission

A composition in which two people become mutual interfaces for interacting with an electronic system of light and sound. The duo explore the system's hypershape by standing on a conductive surface and touching each other's skin to navigate its changing behavior.

Until it is engaged with, the unoccupied platform contains an absence. Two empty spaces wait for human figures who complete the piece by assuming the roles of sculptural element, compositional agent, electronic component, interface, performer, and explorer.

Instructions:
1. For Two People
2. Remove Shoes (maybe also socks if they are very dry/thick)
3. One person stands on each metal plate
4. Touch each other's skin to enact the composition. Experiment together to explore the inner landscape of the system.
5. Please do not touch anything except the metal plates and each other
